We Got Some Splainin' To Do : An I Love Lucy GALentine's Day

Valentine's Day. Love it, hate it, guess what... it's gonna happen!!  Might as well have a festive cocktail (or in our case 5.) We wanted to Leslie Knopes the shit outta this holiday by celebrating being ladies ( AMY POEHLER PLEASE LOVE US, PLEASE?). Cue,  GALentine's Day Party!

What's a party without a theme and an excuse to dress up? That's why we decided to have an I Love Lucy themed GALentine's day, celebrating our funny gal idol, miss Lucille Ball. Sprinkle a little 1950’s Hollywood glamour over some Retro Housewife themes and you’ve got yourself an I Love LucyGALentine’s Day to remember.

We Like to Save

The Budget: $150

At $50 for food, $50 for alcohol and $30 spent on decorations, we came in under budget! So, the only splainin’ we got ta do is to tell you how!

Party Savings Pro Tips:

  1. Repurpose what you already have, and plan themes around that!
  2. MICHAELS COUPONS. Aint’ no shame in our scan the coupon on our phone game.
  3. Make simple food and drinks.

Splurge on a couple of things, maybe something special and local. In our case, this time, it was the $25 artisanal vegan donuts from down the street… yeah, yeah…. we know. BUT THEY WERE A HIT.

We Like to Theme

A perfect theme has detailed little touches. We took retro housewife party ideas and paired them with specific episodes from the Lucy show. Here are our Lucy basics:

We cut this one out ourselves, using scrapbook paper, baker's twine and clothespins from Michael's.

We all have to acknowledge the fact that Lucy is a fox. Give your ladies a place to primp, just like Lucy would on set!

Use wrapping paper to make a backdrop on one of your walls, make it look permanent by hanging a mirror or picture overtop! Add a cute piece of furniture you love and you gotta ready to go photo booth.

Lucy’s Valentine Decoration Station

We had each girl bring their favorite chocolate bar, decorate it with Valentine’s flair from Michael’s and put it in the I Love Lucy apron box. At the end of the party, they reached in and took someone else’s valentine to go!
